Over 26 years of existence Karnaprayag has taken in about 1000 infants. Most of
them were placed in happy adoptive homes with loving parents. A few were taken
back by their biological parents. 80% of the babies who come to us are girls. It
is fortunate that the large majority of couples who approach us also want girls
!! Our children have been adopted mainly in India, though a very few have been
placed in inter-countryadoption.
When the babies come to us they often need special care. We have a neonatologist , a full time nurse matron, a team of physiotherapists and other trained personnel to provide intensive support if needed. We have a qualified counsellor who interacts with parents and with older children, where necessary. we also have a panel of volunteers whom we can call on when required for specific projects - from playing with our toddlers to setting up our website.
Sita’s story
Sita was abandoned at birth in a Government hospital. Her parents just
disappeared shortly after she was born. The address they gave the hospital on
was fictitious and there was no way to trace them.
