Reaching out
- Though our focus is to give committed, high quality care to abandoned babies, we have reached out to the community around us.
We are involved in upgrading the services at the Government ICDS (Integrated
Child Development Centre) Daycare unit next to us. Mothers who work as
housemaids and factory workers leave their toddlers at this free facility all
day. - Karnaprayag provides cereals, vegetables and fruit to upgrade meals given free to these toddlers.
We conduct workshops in basic hygiene and childcare for the mothers.
We design learning and play programmes - Karnaprayag provides facilities for practical experience in infant care to home nurse trainees from two NGO's and to undergraduates from a nursing school.
Sita’s story
Sita was abandoned at birth in a Government hospital. Her parents just
disappeared shortly after she was born. The address they gave the hospital on
was fictitious and there was no way to trace them.
